Update information about How you can Extend Visa or Not?
There are some unofficial information that confuses many people. I would like to confirm from my experience and from what I know, I can provide some information for foreign friends to know the current visa extension status:
- IS A TOURIST VISA PROHIBITED FROM BEING EXTENDED?
– Currently stop extending tourist visas for foreigners from countries in Africa, the Middle East, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Pakistan, Bangladesh if there is no guarantee company or consulate to guarantee the extension. Visa agents cannot sponsor these nationalities for renewal as before.
- A SERIES OF TOURIST VISAS WERE REFUSED TO RENEW, RIGHT?
– Refuse to renew when your Tourist Visa is overdue.
– If the tourist visa is overstayed even by one day, the immigration officer will ask for an air ticket to return home to issue an exit visa for you.
– When there is an Exit visa but you do not exit according to the time limit, the visa agent who guarantees you to take out your passport will be fined according to the provisions of Vietnam’s tourism law for failing to well manage the entry and exit of guests. The business license may be revoked.
- STOP EXTENDING BUSINESS VISA RIGHT?
– Right.
– Stop extending Visa business for all cases of staying and working in Vietnam without a real company where they are working to guarantee them to renew their visa, after extending the visa for 3 months, the company They must commit to sponsor them for work permits and temporary residence cards if they have not exited the country by the end of that time limit. If the company does not guarantee to submit the work permit and temporary residence card, they will be blacklisted.
- REQUIRED DOCUMNETS FOR EXTEND BUSINESS VISA ON THIS TIME
– Business license
– Explanation of change sponsor

(Guarantee for extension of temporary residence form)

– File of commitments to employ foreign workers

- IS THERE A NOTICE TO STOP EXTENDING TOURIST VISA?
– Until now, There is no official announcement on this matter.
- NOTICE TO STOP AUTOMATIC RENEWAL FOR TOURIST VISA RIGHT?
+ For cases of entry before March 1, 2020: Some consulates/embassy have announced to stop issuing notes to guarantee their citizens to stay in Vietnam under the automatic renewal policy. Let their citizens find a way to extend or fly back home before the policy expires.
Typically, the Russian consulate has made an official announcement.
+ For cases of entry after March 1, 2020:
There has been no official announcement yet on the discontinuation of auto-renewal.
But if any foreigners still want to stay in Vietnam and want to be safer for themselves when using automatic renewal for a long time, you can submit your passport to renew 1 month before the notice official.
This is the information I personally gathered and is based on the actual situation that I have applied to extend the visa for my customers during the past 1 week of fluctuations in the renewal policy.
